3rd Seminar of the Chicago-Tohoku Quantum Alliance

Overview

  • Date: Thursday, August 1, 2024
  • Time: 11:00 am -
  • Venue: Conference Room, 4th floor, Laboratory for Nano Spin, RIEC, Katahira Campus
  • Type: Seminar
  • Host: Research Institute of Electrical Communication, Tohoku University
  • Title: Developing quantum technologies through materials design and integration
  • Lecturers: Joseph Heremans and Benjamin Pingault, Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, University of Chicago

Abstract

  • The seminar focused on optically addressable point defects in wide band-gap semiconductors as versatile platforms for future quantum technologies.
  • Topics included materials design and integration strategies for scalable quantum systems, such as ultrathin diamond membranes, bonding approaches, silicon-vacancy systems, silicon carbide, and oxide hosts.
  • The talks also addressed hybrid quantum architectures based on interactions between spin systems and other excitations including phonons and magnons.
